For many of us, the mixtape is a thing of the past, but the Melbourne Mixtape Exchange are doing their best to turn that around. A little recognised art form, the creation of a mixtape brings back memories of all the crappy cars we drove when we first got our license and even further back to taping Hanson off the radio to keep up with all the cool kids at school and practice dance routines to.
But rather than leaving them in the past, the Melbourne Mixtape Exchange want you all to pour your heart and soul into compiling a mixtape for a stranger. Pick a theme or choose your favourite songs, whatever you want to do. Bring it along to Bella Union on Friday night and trade it in for a lovingly crafted new one. Then, tell everyone all about via the Mixtape blog. With the aim of creating a lasting community of music enthusiasts, this project doesn’t stop when everyone’s worn out their dancing shoes on Friday night. The team are also creating a zine to continue sharing the love around the city.
So bust out your tape decks and get recording! Things kick off at 930pm at Bella Union (Level 1, Trades Hall) with DJs all night long. More details here!
