Melbourne band Canary have been busy bees this year producing their debut album Dear Universe.
Combining elements of Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, Elliot Smith and countless others that I can’t quite put my finger on, Canary have produced a diverse and enthralling range of tracks that you can sample below.
There is a certain calmness that overcomes you when listening to this band. The songs draw you in and carry you away while the tones of Matt’s voice soothe effortlessly, as you flit between acoustic and electric; folk and samples.
The album is due for a November release, but you can keep up with all the latest on their facebook page.
Luckily for Melbournites, you can watch it all come to life within the cosy confines of Northcote’s 303 (a couple of doors down from the Social Club) on October 15th. This will be their last gig before their album launch so get down! Also playing at this event are the Jacob McGuffie Band and Cameron and Co.
So when you next have a spare 20mins or so, sit down in a quiet corner and take a listen to Canary for yourself. Make sure you listen to all four of the tracks to get a real feel for these guys!
Who: Canary
When: 15th October, from 730pm
Where: Bar 303, High St Northcote
With: The Jacob McGuffie Band and Cameron and Co.
