Canadian band Stars have put together all of their demos from 2007′s In Our Bedroom After The War to form a new album titled The Bedroom Demos.
While the songs are basically the same, the recordings are a bit more lo-fi, and there are some bits and bobs that did not make it to the final recording.
Being a fan of the original album, I like the idea of hearing the songs in their most basic form – its more raw and proves the talents of the band members. There are no horns on this recording which leaves more space in the songs. The samples are also absent and the drums are not as prominent on a few of the tracks. The record as a whole is less indie-pop, more heartfelt ballads.
Perhaps if you are not familiar with In Our Bedroom After The War, the changes would be a little too subtle, but I still think that you can appreciate this recording without ever hearing the original before.
Give it a go here.
You can also check out the clip for the single Changes that they released earlier this year below. Yes, it does say uncensored… Artistic nudity alert – maybe not one for a public place.
