The enigma that is Kirin J Callinan has just released his first single of his forthcoming debut solo album.

The track, ‘W II W’ (Way to War) delivers a strong industrial soundscape, haunting in Kirin’s trademark sparse, sprawling style. The record will be out later on in the year through Terrible Records (Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor) and Siberia Records (Midnight Juggernauts).

The video accompanying ‘W II W’ is nothing short of a masterpiece. Featuring Kirin in a pair of briefs and what seems to be his partner and child, It is a blinding collection of brilliant gif images, directed by Kris Moyes (The Presets, The Rapture, Beck).

“All napalm, machine guns and loneliness, choppers and tracer bullets, W II W (and its accompanying b-side, Thighs) will be digitally released worldwide on 19 June and on 7″ vinyl on 31 July.

Performing with a full live band, Kirin J Callinan will tour the east coast, playing the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on Thursday 21 June, Goodgod Small Club in Sydney on Friday 22 June, and The Tote in Melbourne on Thursday 28 June.”
